Last week the project was fortunate to have an opportunity to acquire high-resolution images of several key sites where camera traps have documented fishing cats. Images were taken by one of our key project collaborators, Mr. Pornchai Pattumrattanatan, who donned his paramotor equipment and and climbed to an altitude of 250 meters to get a true birds-eye view of the landscape.
Using photo-stiching software, we have been able to create relatively large continuous images of 3 focal study sites at the southern end of Khao Sam Roi Yod and georeference these for use in the project GIS and in Google Earth. These data will be invaluable as we start our detailed habitat assessment in the telemetry phase of the project.
We plan additional flights to further document the unique habitat mosaic that makes up the Khao Sam Roi Yod landscape.
