A recent Southeast Asia small felid summit (Povey et al. 2009) found that recent records of fishing cat occurrence indicate a confirmed present range smaller than all but one of nine species assessed (recent jungle cat occurrence is restricted to a limited area of Eastern Cambodia (Duckworth et al. 2005))--thus highlighting the need for further survey efforts and enhanced conservation measures in areas where the species occurs or could potentially be reintroduced.
